New words for this lesson
Say them out loud. Then use one word in a sentence.
What would you save โฌ1,000 for?
๐ค What is the difference between a wish and a goal?
Show answer
A wish is "I want a laptop someday." A financial goal has three parts: an amount (โฌ), a deadline (when), and a plan (how much per month).
Short, medium, long
Short-term โ weeks or a few months: a concert ticket, a game.
Medium-term โ many months: a laptop, a trip.
Long-term โ years: a driving licence, moving out one day.
The goal calculator
Type your goal and your deadline. See how much you need to save up every month.
๐ค The calculator says โฌ120 per month, but you can only save โฌ40. Is the goal bad?
Show answer
No โ but it is not realistic yet. You have three options: save longer (move the deadline), choose a cheaper goal, or find more income. Changing a goal is smart, not failure.
A goal you can actually reach
A strong goal is SMART:
- Specific โ what exactly?
- Measurable โ how much (โฌ)?
- Achievable โ realistic for you?
- Relevant โ do you really want it?
- Time-bound โ deadline?
๐ค Is "I want to be rich" a SMART goal?
Show answer
No. No amount, no deadline, no plan. SMART version: "I save โฌ300 for a bike by June โ โฌ50 a month."
My โฌ1,000 Plan
To finish Block 1: you receive a fictional โฌ1,000. Split it into four parts:
- ๐๏ธ Spend
- ๐ Save
- ๐ Give
- ๐ Invest
Any split is allowed โ โฌ0 in a category is fine too. The important part: explain your plan in English. Use: "I would put โฌโฆ into โฆ because โฆ"
